What Do You Listen To When You Day Trade

Trading the stock markets is arguably one of the toughest professions around. One needs to have precise levels of concentration to take effective trading decisions. Eminent traders who made their marks during their time such as W D Gann often advised traders to find a secluded spot such as a dedicated office with minimum levels of distraction. I strive to follow this advice because I have realized the value of being alone while day trading. The slightest of the beguilement can ruin my day.

Keeping the brain and other senses heightened is likewise advisable. I use music to stimulate my brain cells. Research has already proven that listening to classical music while doing the daily chores augments our efficiency levels by many times. Here are some sources of music, which I frequently deploy throughout the trading sessions.

BSNL Broadband New Plans (Unconfirmed)

A couple of weeks back, there appeared a news article in The Hindu. The gist of the article was the following – BSNL will be introducing newer broadband plans in the coming months.

Listed below are certain screenshots as well as links sourced from the telephone bills issued by BSNL in various circles within India.

In the first picture, you may see that the back side of the telephone bill has been folded. This image was initially posted in techenclave forum. The region which was folded contained something along the lines of “speed upgrade will be effective from December 2nd 2011″. It is perplexing why the original poster decided to fold that part while posting the scanned copy of the telephone bill.

The second image is also a scanned copy of the telephone bill; this time it is from a bill which was circulated widely in Haryana circle.

Today, an update was posted in a broadband forum by another member regarding the newer broadband plans. Thy are:

ULD 1350 - 4 mbps - has been withdrawn in Haryana circle replaced by 2 mbps plan of same FUP


ULD 1111 - 2 mbps up to 15gb - 256k thereafter
ULF 900 - is actually 4 mbps up to 8gb, 256k thereafter
ULF 1000 - 1 mbps up to 15 gb (earlier was 2mbps) - 256k thereafter
ULF 2150 - 1 mbps up to 100 gb - 512k thereafter

Something is definitely cooking on the BSNL Broadband camp. 
Update (23rd Nov 2011): Here is the complete scanned image of the telephone bill which was allegedly meddled with.

Once again, BSNL officials have proved themselves to be not worthy of their priced positions. Look closely at the bill; you will realize that the date mentioned at the beginning says the year as 2010. However, the footnote included in the same paper shows 2011. It has to be seen how the officials will go back in time and increase the speeds of the broadband plans!

Oanda Forex Market Advisory

I am actually surprised with this move from my forex broker. Oanda has this habit of freezing the trading platform during important news announcements along with increasing the spread values to 10 pips. However, this forex storm watch advisory has changed my outlook about them. 
Not many brokers will take such an initiative. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Is Airtel Spying On My Browsing Habits?

I am an Airtel Broadband subscriber. A couple of weeks back, I was going through the list of outgoing connections established from my PC, when I came across this strange entry. I have attached a screenshot for more clarity. 
Please look at the fifth entry. It shows that a connection has been established in between firefox and an Airtel server.
I find that every time I start firefox (or any other browser for that matter), such a connection is promptly established in between my PC and Airtel server. Very strange. 
Does anyone have any ideas why they are  doing it? Does it have something to do with airtel remote monitoring my browsing activities?

Reliance GSM Kerala – Account Balance Reduced By Activating Unncessary Value Added Services

The title of the topic is self explanatory. I have a spare reliance GSM sim. I recharge this account with meager amounts because I use it primarily to receive calls. In other words, I have a correct assessment about the account balance at all times.
Since the past few days, I find that this company is activating unwanted reliance value added services on my number. They do this without informing me. The queer part of the entire situation is that the company officials are well aware of this. Whenever I call the customer care and make a complaint about this issue, they promptly refund the charges which were taken off wrongfully from my account. However, the cycle has been repeating for the past four days. Every evening, they activate either one of the value added service such as Mallika tips / Devotional tips / Job tips / *Insert Yet Another Money Fleecing Tactic* on my number. As soon as I find that the balance has been deducted, I call the customer care. They acknowledge their mistake and refund the said amount within seconds. 
And every time, they give me false promises that the issue will not occur hereafter – only to happen the very next day!
Anyone else experiencing the same?   

         


Airtel Broadband Speed Boost

Since yesterday afternoon, I am experiencing a boost in my broadband speeds. The default fair usage policy associated with my account is 5GB. I had crossed this limit within a day or two thanks to being connected with the world markets 24×5. Keeping in tune with the traditions, Airtel duly reduced my speeds from 1mbps to 256kbps.
However, now I am able to download at increased speeds…of the order of 600kbps to 2mbps. This has been a welcome move from Airtel and seems like a temporary glitch in my speed profile. 
I am hoping for this speed boost to stay; it will help me catch up with my downloading habits! 
Anyone else experiencing the same?
